The Magic of Herbal Therapy

The healing properties of the plants go far beyond the mere chemical composition of their substances.

What contributes to the healing properties of a plant?

Just as a winemaker is aware of the nuances in the soil quality where his grapes grow, and a violin maker knows his secret forest and the exact moment to cut down a tree for his instruments, so too do herbalists, meticulously considering where and when to collect their medicinal plants. E.g., plants growing in harsh wild environments develop a stronger immune system compared to “spoiled” bedding monocultures.

The plants embrace all the natural elements

Herbs growing in SUNny, windy, and arid areas usually possess a higher concentration of essential oils and antimicrobial compounds. The intensity of released volatile compounds is further affected by the AIR humidity and temperature. The composition of the SOIL influences mineral content in the plants and the WATER volume predetermines their storing properties. Plants with lower water content conserve better, likewise, a “drier” wood suits better for any kind of manufacture.

What is the magic of herbal therapy?

It lies in:

  • recognizing the medicinal properties of a plant
  • gaining a personal experience
  • observing the environments and behavior of the plant
  • considering its connectedness to natural elements (sun, water, air, soil)
  • honoring its medicinal quality in the most effective way – knowing, when and where to collect and how to process it into healing products

Plants don’t carry only active chemical substances with medicinal properties, they contain much more information, as other living forms do.

This is why we care a lot about the origin of the herbs for our Mehana Herbals products.

This summer, we will introduce a new Mediterranean edition prepared from wildly grown lavender, rosemary, and olives. Let’s stay in touch!
