Qi Gong

Health benefits of qi gong exercise

Qigong is a type of Chinese psychosomatic exercise that integrates meditation, slow physical movements, and breathing, and to which numerous physical as well as mental benefits have been classically ascribed.

There are numerous studies demonstrating its beneficial effect, mainly on the regulating mechanisms in the body including immune, hormonal, psychiatric and neurologic system.

E.g., in one study 29 naïve subjects were divided in two groups, of whom one group exercised qi gong for 30 minutes/day during one month.

In both groups (of the qi gong practitioners et non-practitioners), blood samples of immunological parameters have been tested.

Results demonstrated that after one month of practicing qigong, significant immunological changes occurred between the experimental and control group, with the experimental group showing lower numbers of pro-inflammatory mediators, such as leukocytes, eosinophils, monocytes and complement C3.

These data support previous findings that regular qi gong exercise might be an important tool in sustaining good health and preventing disease.

In the Mehana programs we are happy to share the benefits of qi gong exercise under the leadership of experienced Martial Artist Tom Hora.

You can join his classes during the program Mehana Gift dated on November 23-29, 2022.
